Set in a world where history has taken a slightly different course from the one we’re familiar with, K follows the story of a young boy whose life is caught in a psychic war between seven kings. We like the voice of Komatsu but think Toriko’s voice is a bit too dark & aggressive but overall we have no major complaints. We’re interested to see what the other characters will sound like.

Adventure Club is a Dubstep Duo hailing from Montreal.

Formed in early 2011, Adventure Club is a production outfit / DJ duo birthed by local musicians Christian Srigley & Leighton James.

After a blitz in the studio, they’ve released 5 tracks with an upcoming EP to hit the scene shortly, with remixes ranging from 1950’s classics, post-hardcore rock to the sweet electronic sounds of today.

On June 29, a Legend was born. Born Joshua Gunn, this Durham, North Carolina native began performing as early as his voice could pronounce words. Known to his fans as J. Gunn, he would sing in talent shows and even door to door for money to satisfy his thirst to perform even before he was old enough to attend school. Surrounded by the musical influence of his father’s passion for soul and funk records, and coupled with his older brother’s love for hip hop during its golden era, J. Gunn became quickly drawn to the art of emceeing.

After penning his first rhyme at the age of seven, and performing that same song in a talent show that year, people immediately recognized that this was no ordinary young man. At just nine years old, J. Gunn began to enter every talent show possible and started winning prize money for his performances.

While his lyrical ability was obvious, his subject matter more closely reflected those of his early influences such as Common Sense, Big Daddy Kane and Nas, than those typical of a rapper his age. His non-traditional lyrics proved to be an obstacle for J. Gunn to gain the attention of major labels. As he matured into his early teens, freestyle and battle rapping became his forte. He entered and won his first major freestyle battle (the inaugural “Dual of The Iron Mics”) at the age of 13. Continuing to “battle” throughout his teenage years, J. Gunn accumulated nearly 200 freestyle championships garnering him major credibility within his region. It was evident that now was the time for J. Gunn to pursue a record deal.

At the time J. Gunn signed his first independent record deal he was recording under the name “Baby J”. The year was 1999 and the deal was with Mike City of Hectic Records. Though the Hectic situation was short lived it allowed Gunn to record a song entitled “Blaze It Up” with one of his childhood idles, Big Daddy Kane. J. Gunn then entered a management period with Terminator X of Public Enemy and officially changed his moniker from Baby J to J. Gunn to reflect the maturity and growth he had obtained as an artist. A demo/album was recorded and was shopped to labels. Though some positive contacts were established, a record deal to release the long awaited J. Gunn project was never solidified.

The following fall Gunn would enroll in North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and continue his reign on the local hip hop scene conquering on campus battles and local shows. During the entire growth period Gunn’s close friends (K Slack and Killa K) remained by his side. This loose partnership in rhyme eventually would develop into a group known as THETHYRDAY (pronounced The Third Day, in reference to the rebirth of hip hop).

Together they began working on the first installment of 9th Wonder’s compilation, “Mr. Dream Merchant, Vol 1″. The Group first began to operate under the direction of Terminator X, but later signed with the indie label Street Flava Entertainment started by their mentor and local college radio Deejay DJ Samps. Touring across the east coast and releasing an album (“The Perfection Xperiment 2″ which featured production from 9th Wonder, Krhysis and Nicolay of Justus League fame) created a legion of internet and international fans. THETHYRDAY would later disband in 2006 due to creative differences.

Rising from his tumultuous musical past, Gunn remains one of the most highly sought after and anticipated artists in North Carolina and the greater Hip Hop underground. After a short partnership with the now defunct Nxlevel Music Group, which produced one critically acclaimed project entitled “The Sky…” Gunn and his long time friend, Rashad Ladson, created the joint venture known as Red Eye Lifestyle. Red Eye Lifestyle is a lifestyle brand that will promote the music, entertainment, and digital media centered around the lifestyle of young entrepreneurs.

BFP Spotlights...Krewella

Krewella is an EDM trio from Chicago made up of sisters, Jahan Yousaf & Yasmine Yousaf, and EDM Producer Kris Trindl, better known as “Rain Man.”

In 2011, they earned great recognition online after releasing their tracks “Strobelights” and “One Minute“, both which went viral amongst the blog community.

On June 18th, Krewella released their debut EP “PLAY HARD” on Beatport, which premiered on Rolling Stone‘s website a few days prior. The EP featured 6 tracks touching on Electro, Progressive, Dubstep, and Moombahton.

The trio is fairly young when compared to other EDM artists, but their experience within music is not. Each member of Krewella has a background in music of some kind which gives the trio the natural ability to produce some of the most unique, trendsetting sounds.

2012 is becoming a huge year for Krewella as they’ve finally announced their “Phase 1″ tour dates. They’re scheduled to rock out at Global Dance Festival(Redrocks), Marquee Las Vegas, Veld Festival(Ontario), TAO Beach, Social Music Festival, Electric Zoo NY, and even Stereosonic‘s four different venues(Australia).

The young but experienced trio has already amassed 60,000+ fans on Facebook, 15,000+ followers on Twitter, and 10,000+ followers on Soundcloud. Krewella is on the path to making 2012 a huge year and are headed straight for the top with their unique and innovative approach to EDM.

This time we spotlight, the hip-hop duo, Blaze The Sky.

This dope emcee named Azon Blaze met this dope emcee named SkyBlew…They made some dope music together and decided to form a group…Thats when they formed Blaze The Sky..The End

Azon Blaze:

Azon Blaze was born on Nov. 5th, 1985 in Raleigh, NC. He grew up in the small town of the in Apex where he peaked as an athlete, scholar, and community favorite. His music passion was fueled by his 2 older cousins who were connoisseurs of hip hop, and his father, who was a local soul & R&b Dj at the time.

In high school he began recording on his own with whatever equipment he had around the house…after 4 years he taught himself how to mix and master his own songs. After taking a 2 year hiatus to focus on school at North Carolina A&T State University, studying media management, he got back into recording mode in the year 2006.

Along with his brother/producer William “W2” Ward, he composed over 100 songs within 3 years. His career took a major boost after he met Alabama native, now in North Carolina, emcee SkyBlew.. He was given the chance to perform, and soon after, SkyBlew and him formed “Blaze The Sky”, a super two man hip hop group. Since then, alongside SkyBlew, Azon has shared the stage with 9th Wonder, Kendrick Lamar, Kooley High, Cesar Comanche, Rapsody, & Freebass 808 just to name a few.

Azon has relesed 3 solo projects for free: “Kaleidoscope” in october of 2010, “Love Sounds” in february of 2011, and “Back To School Vol. 1” in may of 2011

Sky Blew:

Mario Farrow grew up in Auburn, Alabama - a city polluted with drugs, gangs, and violence. Surrounded by negativity and transitioning into various foster homes, he could have easily chosen the wrong path. Rather than succumbing to his environment and dire circumstances, Mario chose to rise above them and use music to soothe his soul and escape. He would freestyle and rhyme to himself, eventually penning his lyrics under the name, “Young Millionaire,” in 2004.

In 2008 Mario relocated and acclimated to Chapel Hill, NC. This is a new feature where we (with the help of our friend, fellow BFP member, and all-around dope MC, @_CAPE_) feature local and not-so local artists, creatives, and other interesting people, places, and events to help promote those who are, as we, on the collective path to success.

Today, CAPE has selected to shed light on Swayze Jones and the independent record label HOMEBASE.

Swayze Jones: Emcee

Spending years behind the scenes, Jones, now 22, has been perfecting her craft and has built her own studio where she engineers her own music, as well as others. In her journey towards achieving her dreams and having a successful career in the music industry, Jones has orchestrated a three-part mixtape series.

The first installment of the series, “Swayze Nation: Taking Over the Nation,” was Jones’ first solo project, hosted by Dj Jay Stylezs, which released November 2010. She is currently awaiting the release of her second mixtape, “Swayze Nation II: Politics At Its Best” which will be available Early 2012.

The official English site for the new Dragon Ball Z film opened today with a teaser trailer.

The film, which is said to have Akira Toriyama’s deep involvement in the screenwriting process, is said to take place between the 517th and 518th installments of Toriyama’s manga. It’s set during the lost decade of story after the Majinn Buu saga.

Fans can expect favorites like Piccolo, Kuririn, and Vegeta to appear along with Goku.
